back to the future…

…is a simple yet brilliant idea by native buenos aires photographer irina werning! her obsession with old photos has led to her on-going project titled ‘back to the future.’ i found her reminiscent of cindy sherman but more accessible because the images are so personal and a commonality among so many. using old snapshots as her guide, she recreates photos of the same subjects 20+ years later in the corresponding poses, clothing and attitudes. the results are simultaneously funny, touching and bittersweet as you reflect on how much and how quickly we change over the years. looking at the images makes you wistful when you know that in your core, that child still remains and the two selves are, albeit briefly, reconciled.
