the affair continues…
i have always wanted a shirt dress but could never find anything that i thought to be flattering so i can honestly say i struck gold with this vintage ethnic print dress from arizona based fashion by robert black. the dress label says design thai and was hand tailored in bangkok. a real standout aside from it fitting like a glove, was the fact that the beautiful elephant print was screened by hand. the belt was in pristine condition, a rarity, and the knotted fabric buttons were a unique touch:
i have to laugh having been told in the industry that no woman wants to wear elephants on her body. well, i beg to differ with this sweet number!
this second piece i found on a brief sojourn to palm springs two weeks ago. after scouring through a few thrift stores, i finally struck pay dirt on my way to target in cathedral city. i pulled into a parking lot to check my gps and when i looked up, i found i was sitting smack in front of one of the best vintage stores in town.
the back room was packed with the most beautiful, pristine collection of vintage 50’s, 60’s and 70’s clothing and accessories i had ever seen! you could have left me with a case of champagne, locked the door and i would have been in heaven!
this beautiful halter dress is by alice of california and boasts the original tags. these hand screened garments seem to be finding their way to me and the beautiful, vivid colors are just what i need as we head into so cal’s indian summer:
yet wait, this isn’t just a dress. the left side of the garment has a solid blue panel containing a leg! what to call it? a jalter? a humper? LOL, maybe not! whatever it is, it looks good to me:
i feel like a solid gold dancer!
oh yes! and the two dollar bakelite trimmed lizard bag is present and accounted for. having researched bags by varon online, i would have to say this pre-dates the 70’s:
so there you have it! if you missed it, do not fret. there will be another a current affair event in december so get on their mailing list to be in the know! deets on fashion by robert black can be found at the bottom of this post.
That Lizard bag is BEYOND fabulous! More excellent finds, I’ve got to check this out in December!
