vancouver shopping highlights…

…still blogging from vancouver and braving the showery days to explore independent fashion. mount pleasant was uncharted territory to a newbie like me but full of surprises nonetheless. one of the highlights for me was “adhesif,” an independent boutique boasting one of a kind stand out pieces made up of new and recycled fabrics. are you following season 8 of project runway? if you are, you’ve probably had a chance to experience the print and textile mixing expertise of designer mondo. well, melissa ferreira has been doing it and doing it well since 2007. far from being some of the piecey DIY items out in the marketplace, these eclectic garments add individuality to any wardrobe and are complementary to most neutral lines. boasting a wide array of textures and prints, it takes an adventurous heart to pull them off but rather than going for a head to toe look, those looking to dabble can easily pair a quirky little coat with a denim pencil skirt or bootleg pant. the store also carries a small hand selected collection of vintage items which allowed me to pick up a 1980’s jennifer george beaded/sequin top in mint condition. never would have thought to reach back to that decade again, but ferreira has an eye for textile design in flattering cuts that make me an absolute believer!
