the calling…
a friend of mine called me last night to talk about the shoot he had worked on that day. he worked with some seasoned veterans who took him under their wing, so to speak, and imparted some of their professional wisdom to him. he possessed enough humility to realize what an opportunity he was being gifted and he opened himself up completely to what they had to share. by the time he called me, he’d had time to mull over what had occurred and the gist of it was this. he was so moved by the experience that he was near tears. he has so much love and passion for what he does, that he was deeply touched by their compassion and interest. that two really respected individuals would take the time out to help you in your career is something you don’t always expect, especially in an industry with a reputation for being cutthroat. (los angeles, the entertainment industry as dog eat dog) in fact, quite a few people are quite cynical and deeply unhappy in their jobs which may in fact cause them to overlook such opportunities being caught up as they are in their woes. my friend reminds me that it’s the smaller kindnesses and not necessarily the major overtures in our lives that make a difference to us and to others. that it’s also a matter of taking the time to give them and not just receive. i wonder if those two people realize what a difference they made in my friend’s life….and, i suppose by turn, in mine….
